Despite the age of its platform and the fact that it offers more V8 engines than any other type of powertrain, the Dodge Durango is more popular than ever. It will therefore come as no surprise that the American automaker has decided to reintroduce the 6.4-liter V8 to its full-size SUV lineup for 2026.
This time, we’re not talking about an SRT version, but rather an R/T 392 variant, which refers to the 6.4-liter V8’s displacement in cubic inches. This new designation aligns with what we’ve seen on other Dodge models equipped with the same engine in the past.
Three V8s and One V6
In response to popular demand, Dodge has listened to its customers and decided to continue offering the 3.6-liter V6 in the Durango. This engine produces 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. It’s the perfect option for those who like the design of the American SUV but don’t necessarily want a fuel-hungry vehicle.
The GT HEMI version features a 5.7-liter V8 producing 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. This powertrain delivers a more aggressive driving experience while remaining refined, with a soundtrack that is, to say the least, very pleasing.
The 6.4-liter V8 enters the picture here with 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. This is where driving pleasure and versatility come together. This rousing V8 is sure to put a smile on your face, despite its fuel consumption. The R/T 392 version comes with 20-inch wheels, premium Nappa leather, and a 19-speaker sound system.
If that’s still not enough and your budget allows, there’s always the SRT Hellcat Jailbreak version with its supercharged 6.2-liter V8 producing 710 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque.
Pricing for this new version has not yet been announced, but it’s safe to say that the Dodge Durango R/T 392 will be very popular when it arrives on the market.
